Take your outdoor photography to a new level by learning in the field from an experienced photographer. Meeting on Saturday mornings at Arsenal Park near the Louisiana State Capitol (weather permitting), we will discuss and apply basic photography concepts that can be applied to any situation. With parking available on Capitol Access Rd. and Capitol Lake Dr., you may need to walk a ways to our meeting spot at the bust of George Washington in front of the Old Arsenal Museum at 9 AM, but it's worth it. There's plenty of scenery to take in there, with the Capitol Building, monuments, lush greenery, beautiful trees and even Capitol Lake. You'll find other photographers here too, as it's popular for wedding portraits, but we won't be shooting those. You can learn to apply basic principals through manual control of your camera to assure your photos come out like you intend. We will cover basic composition and image management, incorporating the all-important aperture control (F-stop) as it relates to proper focus technique. We will also look at how different lenses affect your shots. Bring your digital SLR or digital mirrorless camera with all your lenses, and make sure you have a spare, charged battery and memory card. And tripods are very welcome! Got a film camera? Gotcha covered! Try to familiarize yourself with the following camera controls before arriving at class: aperture (F-stop), shutter speed, focus, ISO setting and zoom control. Bringing along your camera manual can help a great deal, because all cameras have different operating systems. If you feel you're not ready for a field trip, consider taking an interactive lecture on Beginning Photography, offered by Paul at Mid-City's Art Learning Center Tuesdays 4-6 PM. In the event of inclement weather, the photo field trip would be rescheduled for the next available Saturday.
