Upcoming Events & Requests

Updated: Aug 18, 2021

First thing, we are following the Governor's COVID-19 (and variant) protocols and wearing masks, disinfecting the store, and allowing social distancing. Our gallery and Art Learning Center are large enough to allow more than 6 feet of social distancing. While this is a trying time, especially for those with health concerns, we also need your support. So we are asking you to come shop our Gallery, attend our events, and sign up for our classes.

What's new you ask?

Our website has a new look if you haven't been there in a while, check it out: https://www.mid-cityartisans.com/. Soon, we will be adding a Store to our website so you can order some items directly online. We can ship to you or you can come pick them up.

The gallery has a new look, plus several new vendors and more signing up tonight will join the over 125 we already have! A number of our vendors have brought in new items and a few have reduced some prices. We now have a new vendor of soy candles in recycled glass containers, more jams & jellies, and lots of new art so come check it out.

The Art Learning Center has a number of new classes. Check our updated classes menu on the website to sign up. We have an after school art program for the kids and some great beginner, intermediate, and advanced classes. We also do custom classes if you want to do a painting. handbuilding pottery, jewelry making, or something else with a group of friends or just yourself, just reach out to us. With over 25 artisans available to teach classes, we can put together the right class for you.

Events: Well this is a mixture of events and classes. Don't miss our first Art Opening show August 27th from 6:00 - 9 pm for Dusty Reed a.k.a. the Cajun Picasso (or Picasseaux) from Lafayette, LA. This is a free event. We will be serving wine and cheese (and some other non-alcoholic beverages) and he will have a large number of his wall and shelf art on display and available for purchase. Of course, other items can be purchased as well.

Dusty will also be in the gallery painting live Saturday from 10 am till about 1, so come see the artist at work! You'll enjoy it. Saturday afternoon Dusty will be leading an "Evening with the Cajun Picasso" where you (and a partner or friend) can create your own multi-media masterpieces with his guidance. A restaurant meal will also be served. This class will be a lot of fun. Bring in one or two of your grandmother's old jewelry and put that on your masterpiece, making it all that more special. You will be making a fish, your style! Space is limited, Book Now. We will send you an email with the meal choices.

On Sunday, he will be teaching a Intro to Gel Plate Printing class. You'll learn many gel plate techniques, including transferring, layering, stamping, and more. Use a variety of paper and found objects to create unique works and backgrounds - perfect for mixed media art, card making, and journaling.

Don't forget the Kids Makers Market! September 11. We expect to have about 30 kids selling their arts and crafts. Be sure to come support them.

The Ogden Park Prowl (October 9) is a great annual event located in the neighborhood just west of Acadian Thruway and north of Government St. Mid-City Artisans will be there along with a number of our artisans. If you want to participate, please contact us. The space rental is only $20.00. UPDATE: Ogden Park Prowl has been canceled for this year.

Finally, our Art Day and Poetry Slam August 7 was great. We offer a special thank you to all who helped, demonstrated their art, participated in the Silent Auction, or just came out to listen to the music, shop, visit, or watch the poetry slam. In fact, we are starting to plan our next Art Day and Poetry Slam for October, More details will follow on that as soon as we have them.

Have a great day and whatever you do, come shop Mid-City Artisans, tell all your friends, and share our posts on social media. Spread the word.
